Essentially, McKinsey sees two categories for emerging applications: “information and analysis” and “automation and control.” McKinsey lists tracking behaviour, enhanced situational awareness and sensor-driven decision analytics applications that categorize under the “information and analysis” app.
For “automation and control” McKinsey lists use cases such as process optimization, optimized resource consumption and complex autonomous systems.
